Piercing the Darkness

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:18-19

Every week I have people share incredible stories with me.  Stories of their struggles, a friend’s struggle, a family member’s struggle.  People live some tough lives.  They struggle to overcome and some don’t even try to struggle, they simply embrace it.

I meet people and talk to some who have lived with turmoil for so long they would not know how to function in a healthy situation.  I suppose the evil they know is better than the evil they do not know…or so it seems this must be what they believe.

Only July 6th I celebrated 20 years as a disciple of Jesus Christ.  And He has radically changed my life.  I pray that others experience Christ’s transforming power too.  So many do not allow Him to change them.  They do not allow Him to set them free.

Jesus came to do more than purchase us a bus pass to heaven.  He came to live among us and live within us so we could be set free.  He desires for us to be set free from the pain and pollution of sin; sin we have committed and sin committed against us.

I see so many who need to know…I try to tell them, really I do.  I have learned I cannot make them hear.  I cannot make them believe.  I cannot make them desire to be set free.  But I try…and I pray…and sometimes I weep…because they will not hear.  They will not see.  They will not believe.

Recently I have discovered the Biography channel and its show about near death experiences.  Some of the people have mentioned they saw the prayers of people on earth going up into the heavens.  The prayers were beams of light that were piercing the darkness.  They continued up until they reached the heavens.  This makes me want to pray more; pray harder.  I want to pierce the darkness.  I want to see the power of God rain down into the hearts of men and women.  I want to see prisoners set free and the Lord’s favor bestowed on more people.  Is that too much to ask?

Jesus, Friend of sinners, break my heart for what breaks Yours…
