Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky , and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. ~ Genesis 2:19

We have started a new 30 day challenge. We, as a congregation, are committing ourselves to read & pray every day for 30 days. For those who are already veteran readers with a daily reading habit, I have asked them to step it up a notch. So I have challenged myself to read the Bible in 30 days.

However, my challenge is not going so well. Here I am only two chapters in and God’s Word overwhelms me! I am on the floor and on my face! It’s difficult to read when you are on your face.

How did I miss this? God formed EVERY creature from the ground…including us. Yet, it is only with us that God has a personal relationship. God chose us! God created us in His image. He breathed His very own life breath into us and brought us into fellowship with Him.

Even though the rest of the creatures were formed by God out of the ground, we have authority over them. How is it that we are God’s favored creatures? He loves us and He has designed it so we can spend eternity with Him. We can be in His presence here and in the next life.

Yet, I am equally overwhelmed at the authority God has assigned to us. We do not take it seriously. We do not take the responsibility that comes with the authority seriously. And, if we are new creatures in Christ, that authority has returned to us. We are more than conquerors. We are victors in Christ Jesus!

Today, let us walk with our heads high. Let us walk in the authority God has given to us in Christ. Authority to reign and authority to serve one another. You have a new identity. And your identity is found in Jesus!
