A Good Life Ruled by Reason?

“…a good life ruled by reason…” – The Daily Stoic

Is there such a thing? Does reason actually produce a good life? Can anything be good if it’s separated from feelings or emotion? How do you know it’s good?

Does empathy play any role in creating a good life? A meaningful life? Meaning and purpose most certainly tap into our feeling center. We cannot be good apart from it.

Reason most certainly doesn’t produce a good life. It produces a selfish life. But, perhaps, even this assessment is based on a reasonable assumption.

Thus, we cannot separate the two; reason and emotion. Rather than silencing one over the other, we must hold them both in tension with one another allowing the push-pull to help us navigate this good life for which we strive.
