The church planting journey is feeling more like a roller coaster this week than a pilgrimage. We met with the New Start Committee and it was a good experience. They were very helpful and a wealth of knowledge. After two hours of constructive criticism, I was ready for a break. But there were many words of encouragement and positive affirmation. In the end, they gave us a firm “thumbs up” and commissioned us by laying hands on us. I felt like Paul and Barnabas!
We have a couple of “big rocks” we need to get in place by August 17th. The committee’s recommendation is to push back our official launch date if we are not able to solidify these “big rocks”. So we are asking for prayer regarding these things. And for God’s clear direction concerning our official launch date.
In the meantime, Pastor Blake will officially announce our calling on Sunday, August 15th. Please pray for him as well. Pastor Blake is very supportive of this endeavor and he is making it part of his vision for Detroit First.
We love all of you and thank you for your support!
It was an exciting week for us and the Plumb Line Community. I met with our District Superintendent and the chair of the New Start committee. It was a great experience as I shared the vision for the church. And it was a blessing to receive encouragement and direction from the committee chair. Next week I will make a formal presentation regarding our new start church. We covet your prayers!
Even as exciting as that meeting was for me, it was even more exciting to be able to share the Gospel with someone this week. Marcella has been struggling with cancer for some time. We spent time together this week looking into the scriptures to see what God had to say. I believe she was comforted by the Word of God. And when I asked her if she felt confident in her salvation, she wanted me to tell her more. We closed our time together praying for her salvation and asking for God’s healing power to come into her life. I could almost hear the angels in heaven rejoicing over this new babe in Christ.
We are learning by trial and error…or maybe trial by fire. Our core team and launch team are both coming together slowly, but surely. And God is shaping them just the way He would see fit. We are continually surprised at who He is calling and who He is not calling.
We have now entered the committee part of the journey. In the coming week I will meet with district committees and other pastors. It is my understanding that most of these meetings are for information purposes and to give us some direction. Yet, I get nervous when they start talking about assessment centers and such.
In the meantime, I continue to pray and seek the Lord’s direction. The vision for the church is coming together and I look forward to the miracles He will do.
